BİLGİN, Ö. (2018). Reduction of sulfur content in coal structure by chemical methods and investigation of test results. Presented at the 2018 2nd International Symposium on Multidisciplinary Studies and Innovative Technologies (ISMSIT), Ankara, Turkey.Abstract
The excess sulfur content of coal structure is
harmful for the environment and human health. It also causes
air pollution. When sulfur is burned SO2 occurs. This shows a
toxic effect. For this reason, an excess of S (sulfur) in the coal
content is undesirable and the low sulfur content increases the
quality of the coal. One of the methods used to reduce the
sulfur content in coal content is the chemical enrichment
(leaching) method. In this method, the coal sample is treated
with a suitable solvent and separated from the undesired
impurities in its content. In this study; chemical analysis of coal
sample taken from Erzurum-Şenkaya area, is determined %
ash,% humidity,% caloric values. Then, chemical methods
(leaching) are applied on the coal samples with equal amounts
of Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide at 100°C-500
°C at 4 different temperatures. As a result, pyrite (FeS2) in coal
structure is disintegrated and FeS2 (pyrite) -indu
