t Turkey has always been one of the major agricultural countries in the
world. The importance of agriculture is increasing as biomass energy becomes one
of the major resources in Turkey. Current disposal methods for these agricultural
residues have caused widespread environmental concerns. Achieving solutions to
environmental problems requires long-term policies for sustainable development. In
this aspect, biomass appears to be one of the most efficient and effective solutions.
The protection of environment and public health from pollution arising from energy
production and consumption activities is one of the principles of the Turkish national
energy policy.
