The Comparison Ibn Rushd and Ibn Taymiyya on the Issue of Knowing the God

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to make a comparison between the opinions of Philosopher Ibn Rushd and Ibn Taymiyya the Salafi thinker, on the issue of "knowing the God." The subject of this paper shaped around the arguments those they argued against the philosophers and Islamic theologians, and their unique evidences relating to the existence and oneness of God, they manifested. Even though one of them was rationalist while the other was a Salafi-traditionalist, Ibn Rushd and Ibn Taymiyya draw attention in terms of their close similarities in their ideas about our searching topic, and this state of the case entails a comparison of their opinions.

Bu makalenin amacı "Tanrı’nın Bilinmesi" meselesinde filozof İbn Rüşd’ün ve selefi düşünür İbn Teymiyye’nin görüşleri arasında bir karşılaştırma yapmaktır. Konu, onların İslam filozofları ve kelamcılarına karşı ileri sürdükleri argümanlar, Tanrı’nın varlığı ve birliği ile ilgili kendilerine özgü kanıtları etrafında şekillendi. Biri akılcı diğeri selefi-gelenekçi olmasına rağmen İbn Rüşd ve İbn Teymiyye, araştırdığımız konuda görüşlerinin yakınlığıyla dikkatleri çekmekte ve bu durum görüşlerinin karşılaştırılmasını gerektirmektedir.
