Anthropology in Religion Studies

Abstract

Anthropology is a multidisciplinary science in which information about people and their environment has been collected from early ages and these activities have been continued until today. One of the important fields of study of anthropology, which has a wide scope, is the subject of religion. In anthropology, religion is one of the concepts that are dealt with from very different perspectives and are talked about a lot. In this study, which focuses on the cultural dimension of religion as an area of great interest in anthropology, it was aimed to combine different discourses about religion and to determine the limits of anthropology's approach to religion. In addition, in the evaluations made about religion, the “cultural universal” dimension of religion was pointed out and the question of whether the theosentric perspective would be sufficient for understanding religion was also examined. In this context, by emphasizing the anthropology's view of religion and its priority in addressing it, the views of scientists who explain the phenomenon of religion from different frameworks were discussed, and some evaluations were made to determine the anthropological perspective on religion and religious facts.Keywords: , Anthropology of Religion, History of Religions, Religion and Culture

Antropoloji, erken dönemlerden itibaren insana ve çevresine dair bilgilerin toplandığı, günümüze kadar da bu faaliyetlerin devam edildiği çok alanlı bir disiplindir. Geniş bir kapsama sahip olan antropolojinin önemli çalışma alanlarından biri de din konusudur. Antropolojide din, çok farklı bakış açılarıyla ele alınan ve hakkında çok fazla konuşulan kavramların başında gelir. Antropolojide çok fazla ilgi gören bir alan olarak dinin kültürel boyutuna odaklanılan bu çalışmada, din hakkındaki farklı söylemlerin bir araya getirilmesi ve antropolojinin dine olan yaklaşımının sınırlarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca din hakkında yapılan değerlendirmelerde dinin “kültürel evrensel” boyutuna dikkat çekilmiş, dinin anlaşılmasında teosentrik bakış açısının yeterli olup olmayacağı meselesi de irdelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda antropolojinin dine bakışı ve onu ele almadaki önceliği vurgulanarak, din olgusuna farklı çerçevelerden açıklama yapan bilim insanlarının görüşleri ele alınmış, antropolojik açıdan dine ve dinsel olgulara bakış açısının belirlenmesi için bazı değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur.
